On November 9th 2009, Firefox completed 5 years of changing the web and the world. We did a small party to celebrate the event on November 22nd, similar parties are happening all across the world. Firefox has also released a cute little animation on how the browser and the web has evolved. We also set upon the journey to find a little more about our favorite fox. A little trivia follows.
Firefox was not always known as Firefox. Development first started on the Mozilla Browser. Mozilla later turned to Phoenix, which became Firebird. Since, this name created confusion with the Firebired Database servers, the browser was renamed to Firefox. Check out the Firefox Evolution Timeline.
Firebird was renamed into Firefox on February 9, 2004 and Firefox was first released on November 9, 2004.
The Firefox Mascot was not a fox always. It was almost a Red Panda, but finally the Fox prevailed.
Red Pandas are commonly called Firefox.
On June 17, 2008 – Firefox Download Day, Firefox 3 created a Guinness World Record of 8,02,530 Downloads in a day.

We define the India connection as: Either from India, or for Indians, or by Indians, not limited by the geography of India and not influenced by the Polity of India. We are also working towards our first web-show – The WiSy Video Reviews. We currently show advertising through Adsense and do write sponsored posts. After we complete 6 months of existence, we will publish our traffic stats.
