The Legend of Vraz – Demo Impression

There has been enough hype about The Legend of Vraz developed by Zatun Games, in the digital domain for people to notice and wait for the demo to come out; and finally it has.

I got my hands on the demo as quickly as I can, just as I do for almost all Indie games out there. After getting a taste of the game from its videos, I was very eager to play it out.

Vraz - Game menu

The Legend of Vraz is your typical run, jump and shoot platformer. You play the role of Prince Vraz, who has to complete 5 tasks set by the father of the maiden he loves, so that he can have her hand in marriage. The demo has 5 playable levels, 3 from the Jungle world and 2 from the Palace world.

The art style reminds you of murals and miniature paintings from early India. The detailed artwork and the pre-rendered 3D sprites, gives this game its distinct style.

Obstacles vary from natural or man made obstacles. The lovelorn evil Vizier who also is after your fair maiden has also set up us the bomb. Enemies charge at you or attack you when spotted and then there is Avi’s pet monkey who throws stuff at you as well. Made me feel as if the monkey was on the Vizier’s side.

There will be 15 different levels spread out over 4 different worlds in the full game. The game is said to have cost more than sixty five thousand dollars to develop. Hoping that the final version will have better controls, less bugs and more enemies to keep us going. You can find the demo here.

Pros

  • Art style – The game as wonderful artwork reminiscent of an ancient and colorful India. It tries to be ethnic and sticks to its style.
  • The Music has a very distinct feel to it, sets the mood for the rest of the game.

Cons

  • Terrible controls – Using the mouse for movement and the weird controls for firing just doesn’t cut it.
  • Lack of depth – Even with a story to sweeten the deal, the gameplay will get you in the end.
