Ken Ghosh who gave Shahid successful break in Bollywood with Ishq Vishk joins hand with him for the third time to come up with Chance Pe Dance- a dance based movie of a struggler but what we get is an aimless, predictable and a boring movie.
Sameer Behl aka Sam(Shahid Kapoor) is Delhi lad who came to mumbai chasing his Bollywood dreams and is hardly able to make his ends meet by working as a courier boy alongside his struggle to make it big in Bollywood. He meet Tina (Genelia D’souza)- a small time choreographer during one of his audition and Love vibes start flowing between them. Incidentally both Sam and Tina land up getting their big break in Rajiv Sharma’s (Mohnish Behl) movie.
Sam is thrown out of his job as courier boy and also his room by his landlord and ends up making his second hand car as his home and becoming a school dance teacher despite his hatred towards kids. Finally Sam-possessor of a never-say-die attitude shatters for a split second in the entire movie when he gets to know that under corporate pressure, to earn more profit, Rajiv Sharma has decided to launch a talent hunt to search for a new actor. Tina encourages him to fill the form for the talent hunt. Sam who, now, bonds great with children help them win an ever-eluding dance competition trophy for their school and end up winning the talent hunt to become the rising star in the end.
The story is quite predictable and boring. Screenplay was more worse than the script. The characters were not fully developed especially Tina’s character who was just left to be bubly and chirpy as is the case with most of the roles played by her. Climax was lame. Shahid Kapoor was over the top in many of his scenes. He should understand, he hasn’t reached to Shahrukh Khan or Akshay Kumar’s caliber to be appreciated even when he acts over the top. Direction was completely directionless. Many underdveloped sub-plots were used to stretch the movie to a duration of two hours and thirty minutes.
Music for such movies is very important but even 4 music composers (Adnan Sami, Pritam, Ken Ghosh and Sandeep Shirodkar) failed to take the music above an average level. Ahmed Khan and Marty Kudelka deserve a special mention for brilliant choreography and Shahid Kapoor danced well. Genelia looked cute. Mohnish Behl played an important role brilliantly.
To sum up this movie has nothing going for it except brilliantly choreographed dance steps and was as irriating a movie as were the faces pulled by Shahid Kapoor during the movie. This can be termed as a cheap imitation of a last year’s well made movie on similar concept-Luck by Chance amd should be avoided even on DVD and Television.
