This Suspense Thriller is based on unsolved cases of real serial murder killings in Mumbai back in 1983. Sub-Inspector Sanjay Shellar (Kay Kay Menon) is a dedicated officer in the crime branch, who is suspended from his duty due to his violent nature, which led to a custodian death of a murder suspect for a child Beggar. Sanjay sensed that this is not just one off murder but a work of serial killer. Senior Officer Satam (Vikram Gokhale) ask Sanjay’s rival officer Kedar (Arbaaz Khan) to take Sanjay’s place and ask him to forget about the Child Beggar’s Murder as it is an one off case. But Soon Satam founds out that he was wrong in thinking that it was an off murder, because the murder of the Child Beggar is followed by Murders of 5 More pavement Dwellers. Sanjay Desperate to get back into crime branch asks Satam to allow him to solve this case. Senior officer Satam allows Sanjay to work unofficially on these serial killing cases and tells him that if he would be able to crack the case first he would talk to ministry for his reappointment in crime Branch.
Sanjay unofficially starts investigations and on his way to track the murder he faces his Rival Officer Kedar officially investigating the serial murder case and discord in his marital life as his wife thinks that he is seeing someone else. How Sanjay tracks the murderer and what all he goes through during this investigation forms the remaining of the movie. The execution of the climax is brilliant.
Kay Kay Menon gives an excellent performance. Kay Kay Menon as a dedicated inspector Is just brilliant. Arbaaz khan and others were average. The Stoneman Murders has the background Score needed to build tension. The movie comes to the point from the start itself without getting into unnecessary sub plots. In order to show the 1980’s period in the movie, the art director used the Lifebuoy jingle, panama cigarette butts, hoardings of Shekhar Kapur in Digjam suiting Advertisement and retro movie posters. It very well sets the tone of the movie. Just a single song hardly disrupts the speed of this thriller.
The film does not have any major drawbacks. Just the usual unnecessary scenes that would have been better chopped off like the item song in the bar or the sensual shots of the heroine Manali (Sanjay’s wife). They didn’t add anything to the story, nor take it forward. They were there just as masala for the common Indian Man, which didn’t go well with us.
There are not many Good Suspense thrillers and Murder mysteries that Bollywood can boast of, but this surely falls in this category and what takes it to higher levels is an excellent performance by Kay Kay Menon. A must watch for the ones who Love suspense and murder mysteries, or if you are a Kay Kay Mennon fan. The movie has even got a decent IMDB Score of 7.8.
